Biography:
My life. It all started a moment I may never know about. When I was found on the doorstep of the Lo family, they took me to the hospital where the doctors said I was one month old. That puts my birthday on Halloween and since the Lo family didn't exactly celebrate Halloween at the time... they didn't know the weirdness in that. Oh well, I'm not mad at'em. They did right by me, tried to learn as much about the American Way of Life, think from books and all, so they could raise me as an American. Quai Lo and his wife Rai are good people who happen to have found themselves surrounded by bad elements.
Some backstory is a guy named Tan Lo, ran some form of the Triads here in America back way before my time. Tan has three brothers, Fei, Jin... and Quai. Fei and Jin got in the more illegal things, while Quai kept everything he did himself legit. When Tan accepted this of his youngest brother, they actually got closer where Tan started admitting he respected Quai being legit since they're father was heavy on discipline through Martial Arts. Don't remember all it encompasses, but there's alot. Anyway Tan got capped by an assassin, Fei got a quater upstate and Jin's around... somewhere.
Back to me, when I could walk, Quai started me in on the martial arts thing. Instead of putting blocks into shaped-holes and trying to stab things with my toys I was learning stances and blocks. Defense before offense or something like that, don't remember, I was like one. Got older, kind of spoiled since Quai and Rai's kids were all grown and out of the house. I hear stories about when I was younger, like I got kicked out of preschool for spraining some kid's elbow for trying to steal my pillow, used to headbutt things, yanno... was a kid. Nothing too spectaculor to tell, really, just kinda... lived. Went to some martial arts tournaments, even had a serious Karate Kid time in my life, crazy times... I still have the trophies up on a shelf somewhere, but Fred did that and I'll get to him later.
Uncle Jin though, he's an important part of the situation. Best thief on the east-coast in his day, pissed his family off when he got contracted out to other people since he was more then that good. A natural, figured shit out, nothing he couldn't steal and he proved it. Robbed the FBI Headquarters on a dare and did not get caught. I... am also a natural, when Jin started coming around more he noticed this and oh the fights he and Quai got into over it. I started hanging around Uncle Jin more, he started showing me the ropes, starting on problem-solving and figuring things out first. We made it an art... an art we made beyond beautiful. I just got it, yanno? It just came to me, the first thing I ever stole was of course a candybar from the 7-11.....when I was four. After that... the wallet of Chester Brown, I thought it was Charlie Brown, but still, two credit cards, Diner's club card, expired driver's lisence and $105. Yes I remember that worn-in brown leather wallet with the top left corner missing.
As times change, so do areas, people, just... everything. When I got to school it was prodominantly African American, which I was really cool with... obviously. I had the standard hardships, got into fights cause I had 'black friends', though I faught mainly other black people over that. Sometimes it doesn't pay to be color-blind, but I like who I am, not gonna change. When things started getting easier in middle school, people started accepting that I was around, I was just being me, just like them and the differences started washing away... that's when the Hispanics started coming in. I still thank the lord for that... very much cause that's when I started really getting into girls. You know, facial hair, nuts dropping and shit. Mmm... nothing is sexier then a Latin honey in a halter walking around Olmsted in the summertime.
By highschool I became addicted to curves and the rush of the art. In school I liked some history, science and wrestling. I won state twice, went to nationals once, but lost in the first roung. For some reason I'm not that big on sleep, doctors said something about a hyper-active disorder mixed with a massively high metabolism and energy levels. Fuck if I know, I just always want to do something... makes the chill-times so much better. Whatev. Black, 1968 Chevy Chevelle with the SS package, streamlined read design in the drop-axel mods. That was the first car I ever boosted, just me, a flathead screwdriver and that rush. Only got $200 out of it since I messed up the door, scratched it all up then bent it. Definitely learned to never, ever do that again. I obviously got better at it, legally baught my first car when I was fifteen, got my lisence and the rest is just a lot of dirt and work.
Onto the personals, when I was sixteen Rai won a spot on The Price is Right, she watched that shit religiously and that actually helped me barter goods. Cough. Anyway, so she's off to have her dreams come true and I was the punk-ass who stayed behind so I could make sure everyone she knew watched the show. Quai, Rai and Jin got on that plane... the plane that crashed in Dodge City, Kansas. No survivors. I inherited their house, what used to be the Lo Dojo and of course Lo's corner. I don't know why they left me everything, but their kids didn't fight that since Quai's savings were divvied evenly between them, I didn't fight that part. With all the legalities and lawyers fighting the system I got locked up. They call it protective services, but those grated windows and re-enforced doors lock from the outside. I got put into a family, a damn good family that was thankfully in the area. The Green's were actually kind of Boston Royalty, Ben Green is a descendant from where 'Green Street' in Jamaica Plains is named after. They were such a quiet family, Ben and Donna have three kids, triplets actually, LJ, Diona and Fred. They welcomed me in, showed me structure and all of that.
So much happened in those two years I can't even begin on it, they welcomed me for me, they showed me values, commitment, dedication, drive and the true meaning of unconditional love. Leon John, or LJ, loves basketball, even to this day since he's got a scholarship to Penn State to be their Shooting Guard. I still school him on the court each and every time, but he's professional good. Diona's into music, oh that girl can sing, but more importantly she's learning about the other process, producing, composing, all of that and she's got herself a full-ride scholarship up in Brookline, think it's the New England Institute or some other crazy shit like that. Freddy, he's the quiet, timid one who may need to have someone take care of him. Don't get me wrong, he's not slow or anything like that, just needs to be taken care of.
When I turned eighteen I baught a house. Yep, it's all legal and legit. It was a party house, I saw the looks Donna gave when she'd come over to do my laundry, clean and even cook. Deep down she loved doing it, Ben would tell me how she would talk about it all week, but it got her out of the house for all of Sunday, Ben enjoyed the time with the house all to himself since the triplets came with her. Hey, Donna could be firm, she had my ass cleaning right along with everyone else, used to tell me, "Boy, you're not that special and I'm not impressed". Sunday nights was family nights, we all had dinner over at my house, though during the week I'd drag myself over to their house to eat, so somehow even though I feel I'm the one getting the most out of the situation... they said they got more out of it.
At nineteen the triplets and I all got together and got Ben and Donna an all-purposes home improvement anniversary gift. The triplets wanted to send them to the Bahamas... but they knew how I felt about that, so we went with the checking card instead. The night after their anniversary party, Ben and Donna were in their livingroom watching the news, the triplets were all out, I was on a shadow so I know it was a monday. A garbage truck lost control and crashed through the wall, Ben died instantly, Donna passed away in the hospital seven hours later. There was no question about it, the triplets moved in with me, Freddy started working at Lo's Corner, LJ and Diona focused on school as best they could cause I wouldn't let them give up on their dreams. I can't believe how much time I spent in court and the government buildings... but I did, I would not let them be put into the system.
Things have been... well, they've been. LJ Diona are on their way to college, Freddy's a manager at Lo's, making more then he should be... but I'm a great boss. As for me? I'm still playin the game of life, doing what I'm good at, being smart and patient, or as much as I can be. There are suspects and there are criminals... suspects go to jail, criminals are hated by the police. I choose to be hated over going to jail. Lately I've been feeling strange, not sick, just... weird. Can't describe it, maybe I don't want to. Same reason why I don't really want to look into where I really come from... but that's another story... for another time.
